Question by Eric: Which field under biology has the best career opportunities?
I need to pick a concentration in biology for my major. What are the advantages/disadvantages of the following in terms of future careers?

cell biology?
human biology?
ecology?
molecular biology?
biochemistry?
neuroscience?
genetics?
evolutionary biology?

  • neuroscience and evolutionary biology is probably the hardest to work with in the future.
    in my opinion, human biology and cell bio are the most futuristic majors that are expanding the working field.

  • So, it doesn’t really matter at all if you plan on pursuing a research doctorate. If you plan on going into medicine, biochemistry or human biology will be helpful but have no bearing on your career. If you plan on using your undergraduate degree as an endpoint to your academic career, it would really depend on what you wanted to pursue as a career. There are no advantages/disadvantages to any. That is unless you wanted to pursue something very specific. Hopefully you will update this posting with a little more information to aid others in a meaningful response.
