Harsco Metals Forms Strategic Alliance with Tetronics

Tetronics’ technology at Harsco’s Plasminox project at Terni in Italy

London (PRWEB) December 16, 2011

Tetronics Ltd., a global leader in the supply of Direct Current (DC) plasma waste recovery plants for the treatment of hazardous waste and metal recovery, today announced that it has signed a Strategic Alliance Agreement with Harsco Metals Group Ltd, an established and well respected globally operating services company. Through this alliance Harsco will seek to extend their technical offering with the addition of Tetronics’ DC plasma arc technology to the many potential areas of hazardous waste treatment and metal recovery as well as into new applications and territories.

Harsco has a wide global presence in over 50 countries and an interest to invest in commercially viable plasma arc facilities involving the build, ownership and operation of such facilities for the benefit of Harsco’s existing and new customers.

Harsco and Tetronics have a long history of successful collaboration with Harsco having 20 years of experience in operating and maintaining Tetronics’ technology at their Plasminox project at Terni in Italy. The project has seen Tetronics DC plasma arc solutions recovering valuable metals from the Electric Arc Furnace dust that is generated from an adjacent stainless steel manufacturing process to then be re-used back into the steel production process. Both companies recognise the combined strength of Tetronics, as an established technology provider and Harsco as a global operator.

The process chemistry in Tetronics’ plasma technology is designed to symbiotically and preferentially separate and recover the valuable material in a range of wastes whilst destroying any hazardous components. The remaining non-valuable material is vitrified into an inert, safe disposable, non?hazardous material, called Plasmarok®, in a single processing step. The robust level of construction and minimal number of moving components within the plasma systems delivers outstanding plant longevity. The recovery process also has exceptional environmental and commercial credentials and can be considered as a future?proof solution for waste management problems.

Speaking about the alliance, Jeremy Makepeace, Vice President Global Solutions (Non ferrous) at Harsco Corporation explains;

“The reality is that how we manage waste today will change dramatically in the next 5-10 years, with traditional waste management solutions being increasingly challenged on regulatory compliance, corporate & social responsibility and economic cost grounds.

The Tetronics technology will enable our customers to recover valuable resources from waste that they can reuse in their manufacturing processes in a sustainable “closed loop model” thereby ensuring security of supply of key resources, or that they can sell to achieve additional revenue streams.

We have first-hand experience and trust in Tetronics and the effectiveness of their DC plasma arc technology.”

Stephen Davies, CEO for Tetronics comments;

“We are delighted to have formed this alliance with Harsco.

Harsco is already a major player in the services sector with a presence on all continents across the globe. The new alliance will see the benefits of our plasma technology being promoted not only in our traditional areas of operation, but also into new sectors and territories.”

Question by : Climate change is an environmental issue in the news almost daily. Air pollution impacts us on a global level.?
Climate change is an environmental issue in the news almost daily. Air pollution impacts us on a global level. What are the implications of global warming? And, do you feel the efforts to improve air quality are worth the economic costs?

Answer by A Modest Proposal
I am very strongly inclined to think that this is a prompt for an essay for school. The wording is very similar to ones I have seen. I have to wonder why you would decide to lead into the post with a statement, and not a summarizing question that would lead in to further details (as most people anywhere on this site, even outside of the Global Warming section, do), if your intent was really to ask this and not get answers for homework.

I think you should do your own work. However, to answer your question vaguely so I don’t get reported:

>>>What are the implications of global warming?

Rising sea levels, acidification of oceans, alteration of weather patterns around the globe.

>>>And, do you feel the efforts to improve air quality are worth the economic costs?

Yes.

Several Environmental Factors Causing Change in Life Forms?

Question by : Several Environmental Factors Causing Change in Life Forms?
We are learning about eras (Precambrian, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, Cenozoic) in Earth science and I can’t seem to find the answer to this… I need several environmental factors that may have been responsible for the change in life forms. Thank you, I appreciate it!

Climate played a significant role. Without warm environments, reptiles wouldn’t have flourished in the Permian. Dinosaurs were endothermic and weren’t as dependent on solar heat but still benefitted from the high productivity conferred by mesozoic warmth. Plentiful food enabled them to attain large sizes. In the cenozoic, however, temperature fluctuated; warm spells like the paleocene–eocene gave way to colder temps more recently. Many mammals evolved much hair for warmth during the ice ages.

Crude Awakening, June 2010 – Jane Fulton Alt

Living on the shores of Lake Michigan, I am acutely aware of the disastrous toll the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has taken on all forms of life, especially as our beaches opened to the 2010 swimming season. This environmental, social and economic catastrophe highlights a much larger problem that has inflicted untold suffering as we exploit the earth’s resources worldwide. We are all responsible for leading lives that create demand for unsustainable energy. We are also all responsible for the solution and we must work together to protect the balance of life.

Part one of David Gauntlett’s inaugural lecture, ‘Participation Culture, Creativity, and Social Change,’ from November 2008. See www.theory.org.uk for links to parts 2 and 3. Overall, Gauntlett points to a shift from a ‘sit down and be told’ culture to a more creative ‘making and doing’ culture, which may offer one of the necessary keys to tackling climate change and environmental problems.

how do bacteria respond to environmental change?

Question by xxhotblondchickxx: how do bacteria respond to environmental change?
how do bacteria respond to environmental change? i need examples

Answer by Enya
they mutate/adapt most of the time…. example

antibiotic

Antibiotics are drugs that kill bacteria, tiny germs that can cause infections and disease. Antibiotics have been used for many years to treat illnesses caused by bacteria (penicillin for an example).

Each time you take an antibiotic, bacteria that are sensitive to the antibiotic are killed. Other bacteria are not killed as easily and may grow and multiply – they are “resistant”(mutate) to the antibiotic.

Over many years, some bacteria have become resistant to antibiotics commonly used to treat infections caused by these bacteria. “Antibiotic resistance” describes this process. These bacteria have slowly changed over time and are no longer sensitive to some antibiotics. In other words, some antibiotics no longer work very well against some infections caused by resistant bacteria.
