You can major in sustainability now?

Who’da thunk it.

To be perfectly honest, nowadays a bachelors degree isn’t really worth a whole lot at the start. Especially these broad, everything but the kitchen sink type majors. If you want to be competitive in the job market following graduation here is what I suggest.

1. Find an area that is in demand.
2. Do as many work-studies, internships and work at whatever job gets you experience in that field
3. Do well in class not with the intention of getting good grades but with the intention of learning and retaining the information.

But if you continue to with the sustainability option your job options will most likely be limited to administrative positions at NPOs and in the government, at least until you develop a significant resume.

What do you think? Answer below!

Simultaneous Policy Website Combats Political Apathy and Puts UK Voters Back in Charge

Simultaneous Policy Website Combats Political Apathy and Puts UK Voters Back in Charge

(PRWEB) June 9, 2004

Simpol-UK has a growing membership of UK citizens who coordinate their votes to encourage Britain and other nations to co-operate in solving global problems. It is the first of many National Simultaneous Policy Organisations throughout the world, working under the umbrella of ISPO. Spain, India, Canada, the United States, and other countries, will soon follow in Simpol-UK’s footsteps. Adopters of SP believe ISPO offers a new way of restoring genuine democracy lawfully and peacefully, one vote at a time.

Site visitors are invited to ‘adopt’ Simultaneous Policy, which means they pledge to vote not for a specific candidate but for any candidate, within reason, who has pledged to implement SP, or to encourage their preferred candidate/party to pledge to implement the policy. Instead of dividing people along party-political or other lines, SP unites them behind a common methodology, for which there is already widespread support. Until the advent of SP, this common policy had no means of effective political expression.

Josie Sawers, internet strategist at Simpol-UK, comments: “We believe most people would agree to apply SP to the global problems of terrorism, unfair trade, environmental destruction, global warming, and the undue influence of multinational corporations. Countries need to work together to solve these major issues. However, the competitive global economy reduces the policy options open to governments and, consequently, voters are frequently deprived of their democratic rights.”

Sawers continues: “Who hasn’t thought that voting for one political party over another is a case of picking the ‘least of all evils’? Some people believe it no longer matters who receives their vote, while others don’t vote at all. Party politics aren’t working any more, and turnout figures support our viewpoint.”

According to the latest Brussels poll, less than half of European citizens intend to vote in June’s EU-wide elections for the European Parliament. Meanwhile, UK local elections achieve a 32-34% turnout; and the 1999 European Parliament polls witnessed a turnout of just 24% – the lowest vote amongst EU member states.

“If citizens worldwide who currently abstain from voting decided to adopt Simultaneous Policy, we could see the beginning of the end of many major global problems within the next 20 years,” Sawers concludes.

Notes to editors

The UK Simultaneous Policy Organisation (Simpol-UK) was incorporated on 22 March 2004 as a democratically operated, not-for-profit company. Worldwide adopters of SP communicate through the International Simultaneous Policy Organisation (ISPO) – http://www.simpol.org – an informal, not-for-profit umbrella organisation.

Simultaneous Policy (SP) is the brainchild of British businessman, John Bunzl, who devised the idea during late 1998. The central premise is to move away from destructive global economic competition and towards fruitful cooperation, within the framework of existing national and international institutions and political processes. The methodology is explained in Bunzl’s book, The Simultaneous Policy – An Insider’s Guide to Saving Humanity and the Planet. The book has been praised by Tony Benn and Noam Chomsky, as well as many other leading figures.

“Green” Bed & Breakfast: An Enrivonmental Challenge

How can you start a green bed and breakfast? Most of the people don’t think of this as a business that will lends itself to ecological concepts, but it is. The reality is, no matter what your line of work, you are able to help the natural environment when you try.

Not just will you be doing a good deed, but being enviromentally friendly will also help your profits. To begin with, you will save dollars. Most people feel it’s more costly to help environmental surroundings, yet it’s actually cheaper.

It may perhaps attract some business via other people aiming to support the earth also. Also it can net you tax breaks. The federal government wants to motivate firms to go green, which is why they will spare you on taxes for making an effort.

How do we go green? Allow me to share seven ideas to make it happen:

#1) Assist green organizations

If you wish to obtain supplies, make sure to do so from businesses that utilize environment friendly concepts themselves. This can be an uncomplicated yet powerful technique. Because you must obtain supplies anyway, why not support other programs which might be helping the environment.

#2) Invest in recycled products

This assists cut down on waste materials, and could also save you lots of money.

#3) Lessen artificial power

As opposed to using electrical energy, implement wind or solar powered energy. Both these methods are perfect approaches to lower your expenses while helping the planet. And if you do employ artificial lighting, keep the lights down wherever possible. Making use of natural light is important.

#4) Recycle

Steer clear of throwing away things whenever possible. Rather, recycle them. You’d be very impressed how many items can be recycled, so making more of an effort to accomplish this makes sense.

#5) Reuse goods

Instead of throwing them out, simply use the identical goods once more. A good example would be writing on the front and also back of paper.

#6) Plant trees

Trees are recognized to support the environment. Consequently, planting them around your premises is a wonderful tactic to make your property more appealing, while also helping the environment.

#7) Utilize paper as seldom as possible

Instead of keeping track of your earnings and bills with physical paper, do this completely from your personal computer. The more paperless it is possible to become, the better off the environment is going to be.

These tips are very simple, but efficient. Simply put into action one at a time, and you’ll quickly have an environmentally-friendly bed and breakfast.

Defining Green Jobs

We have all heard about Green careers. We know that green collar jobs have purposes on many fronts from the environment to the economy to the ego. On one hand, green collar jobs clean up the environment simply because of their thrust in making the world a greener place to live in. On the other, green collar jobs are expected to grow in the coming years with increased environmental awareness and increased federal funding.

All of these sound great in theory, of course. After all, there is no better job than one that can serve the ends of the economy, the environment and the ego. The problem lies in the definition of green jobs, which continues to evolve with legislation, technology and common usage. The definition can often range from the very narrow to the very inclusive, which muddies up the issue some more.

So, what exactly constitutes green collar jobs? Well, there are only three criteria as agreed upon by industry insiders, which this article will try to break down.

]]>

Impact on Environmental Protection

Green collar jobs must either have direct or indirect impact on the well-being of the planet. Thus, when employers make the job descriptions, certain goals must be met in the process. It must be emphasized that the following goals need not be met in all instances just as long as the impact is one of protection of the environment.

Thus, green jobs achieve several of the following green goals:

* It contributes to the generation and use of renewable energy.

* It serves to lessen the levels of greenhouse gas emissions, pollutants and toxic materials.

* It conserves natural resources such as water, land and energy.

* It minimizes waste, be it in terms of recycling, reducing and reusing.

* It decreases the use of dangerous materials either in the input or output sense.

* It promotes biodiversity and the restoration of damaged ecosystems.

* It minimizes humanity’s negative impact on the planet.

Impact on the Economy

Green collar jobs also exert an impact on the lagging economy. Keep in mind that the Obama administration sees green jobs as one of the most effective ways to keep the economic recovery on track mainly through the so-called green stimulus plan, of which the tax incentives on the manufacturers of solar and wind systems is the latest of the bunch.

Proponents of the plan assert that at least 3.3 million jobs will be created by said tax breaks. When you consider that the unemployment rate is now hovering at the painful 10 percent mark, this is welcome news indeed.

Impact on the Ego

We are, of course, talking about the personal ego. Green careers can go a long way towards a happier workforce in many ways. For one thing, unemployed workers will now have more job prospects. Workers will also know that while they are filling up their pockets, they also own up to the responsibility of environmental protection. Many people will say that, indeed, green collar jobs are a win-win situation for all of humanity.

Green jobs are in high demand nowadays. One will do well to take the opportunities in the field for the sake of their own pockets, the economy and the environment. Think of it as hitting three birds with one stone (No offense to the bird-lovers reading this article)

“CUE: ECO-CRISIS LAUNCHES NEW ENVIRONMENTAL CAMPAIGN”

EcoNews Service

VANCOUVER, BC – What do Extraterrestrials and the expanding hole in the Earth’s ozone layer have in common?

“A great deal,” says Vancouver-based environmentalist Alfred Webre. “The Extraterrestrial Presence may hold the key to our ecological crisis. That’s why we have launched CUE, a new Campaign for Universe-based Ecology, as a vehicle to increase awareness of Extraterrestrial assistance for our environment.”

CUE, is now housed on the Internet at http://www.EcologyNews.com. Individuals and organizations are welcome to visit there. Participants are invited to promote a Universe-based ecology in various ways, including seeking open public hearings on Extraterrestrial and environmental policy.

Public disclosure of possible extraterrestrial presence may be absolutely necessary to our ecological survival, according to CUE. “The Extraterrestrial presence may be a vital component of our saving the ecology of Earth. They may be here to assist us beyond petroleum-nuclear into cosmic free energy sources; beyond our planetary regime of war, disease, crime and poverty into a Universe-based future,” says Webre. CUE considers that Earth’s ecology may be the true goal of extraterrestrial disclosure.

“We can base our awareness of the environment-extraterrestrial connection on several factors,” claims Webre. “One is that transcripts of authentic, non-abducted Extraterrestrial contactees tell us that Earth’s ecological crisis is a prime concern. Exopolitics – politics in the Universe – also tells us that the Universe is highly organized and advanced. Universe society’s intervention to correct an ecological imbalance is consistent with how Earth may fit in to Universe society. Many reported negative “abduction experiences” may in fact be the product of psychological warfare operations in an information war by covert para-military organizations against the Extraterrestrial Presence.”

Extraterrestrial Disclosure

Webre is an environmental lawyer and former General Counsel to New York’s Environmental Protection Administration. He spoke as a featured speaker at a recent X-PPAC Presidential Politics Town Hall panel held at California’s Santa Clara Convention Center. Steve Bassett heads the Washington, DC-based Extraterrestrial Political Action Committee which sponsored the Town Hall to promote government disclosure of a possible extraterrestrial presence on Earth.

A 1996 Gallup poll found that 45% of adult Americans, or approximately 100 million persons believe that extraterrestrial civilizations visit Earth. By contrast, the Federal Election Commission determined that 96 million adult Americans voted in the 1996 US Presidential election.

1977 Carter White House Study

Webre is no stranger to examining extraterrestrial policy. His 1974 context communication theory of extraterrestrial intervention led to a 1977 Carter White House Extraterrestrial Communication study, which he directed as a futurist at Stanford Research Institute. Had the Carter White House study not been terminated by direct intervention of Pentagon officials, we would now have been living under nearly a quarter century of extraterrestrial disclosure.

“If there is an Extraterrestrial presence in Earth’s dimension, why here and now?” Webre asks. “Perhaps that Extraterrestrial intelligence is impelled to assist us out of our petroleum-nuclear planetary coffin.”

Ecological Catastrophe

“Our petroleum-nuclear civilization has made toxic our oceans, atmosphere, and landmasses,” Webre continues. “The hole in the ozone layer has now expanded from Antarctica to hover over a city in southernmost Chile, expanding the threat of human skin cancer and the disappearance of food-chain vegetation.”

“Global warming and greenhouse gases, caused by our petroleum-nuclear civilization (as well as by solar and galactic activity), threaten Earth’s species, habitats, and basic ecology,” Webre notes. “Already, our polar ice cap is melting.”

“Earth’s ionosphere and magnetosphere are being dangerously affected by global electromagnetic weapons and mind control systems such as HAARP and other monstrosities,” Webre states. “Electromagnetic weapons affect the human brain’s limbic system, and can trigger earth changes by altering the magnetosphere and tectonic plate systems.”

According to Webre, Extraterrestrial intervention can make a vital difference in our ecological crisis. “Universe society may be here to give our planet life-saving assistance, such as Light-based energy and healing technologies to replace our polluting civilization.” he says. “It may be a matter of planetary ecology and the directives of an advanced Extraterrestrial civilization. Some of us call that civilization Universe society.”

CUE – a Campaign for a Universe-based Ecology

CUE – a Campaign for a Universe-based Ecology – was launched at the Town Hall as a focus for awareness of Earth’s ecological catastrophe, and Extraterrestrial society’s potential role in assisting us.

“What we need,” says Webre, “is a special Decade of Contact in all countries, a transformation of our human self-image. The Decade of Contact is a proactive, education-based process of global integration with Universe society.”

“Our entire terrestrial fabric – environmental, energy, governmental, educational, scientific, technological, philosophical – calls out for a new Universe-based reality.” Webre asks, “Let us save our precious Earth. Healing Earth’s ecology can be a new, explicit goal of the disclosure process.”

Open Hearings

“CUE is a vehicle for demanding open hearings the United States Congress at Washington, DC, on the extraterrestrial presence, and on Extraterrestrial solutions in solving our global environmental crisis,” Webre states. “CUE will also be seeking Open Hearings in other planetary venues, for example: Canada, Mexico and Brazil in this hemisphere; France, Sweden, and Russia in Europe; China and Japan in Asia.” All of these are areas of major UFO sightings.

CUE is helping gather public support for open US Congressional hearings on Extraterrestrial policy, including environmental policy.

“CUE can help us shift into a new domain of politics – Universe exopolitics,” Alfred Webre states. “We must shift from a terrestrial-bound community to a Universe-directed body politic, our fundamental cosmic entitlement. The transformation starts within all of us. For we ourselves are the Universe transformation. We are the exo-government. We are the new Universal human.”
